What is Urgent Care?

Urgent Care provides medical care for patients with complex or urgent health concerns.

Urgent care services are for people who have unexpected but non-life-threatening health concerns that usually require same-day treatment. Some examples include broken bones, sprains, lacerations, asthma, dehydration, pain and infections.

Patients with high acuity, life-threatening conditions will be stabilized and transferred to GPRH or to facilities in Edmonton.

All patients are seen according to the urgency of their health condition, with the sickest patients being seen first.

What is a Public-Private Partnership?

Public-private partnerships (P3s) are a type of procurement model for constructing and operating major capital infrastructure. As the name suggests, it involves a partnership between one or more public entity and one or more private entity.

P3s offer centralized oversight of commercial, legal, and financial activities throughout construction and operation periods.

What is a functional program?

A functional program is a report produced before any facility is designed. The report lists the functional requirements for each component of a new health facility (i.e., space requirements, building codes, parking, etc.).

What is a Clinical Services Plan?

This is a detailed report which assesses and reviews all health services and infrastructure within an area. The area may be geographic, facility-specific or program-based. Both clinical service plans and functional programs inform the consultant team’s design work.

What is a Request for Proposals?

A Request for Proposal (RFP) outlines the conditions bidders need to meet in order to deliver a product or service. The goal of an RFP is to encourage competitive bidding.
